James Counihan is a principal with Prism VentureWorks. Prior to Prism, Mr. Counihan was with EPiCON, Inc., where he served as Legal Counsel and Director of Business Operations. A Prism investment, EPiCON was sold to Nortel Networks in September 2000. Prior to EPiCON, Counihan was with Sapient Corporation where he held positions in Corporate Legal Counsel and Business Operations. He also served as Legal Counsel for the Outsourcing Division of Bell Atlantic Network Integration, a start-up and wholly owned subsidiary of Bell Atlantic Corporation (Verizon), which grew into a $300 million business in four years. Counihan holds a B.A. cum laude from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, a J.D. cum laude from Suffolk University Law School and is currently a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association.
Based in Globespan’s Boston office, Dave focuses on investments in infrastructure software and other technology solutions for IT organizations within larger enterprises. He also is actively involved with Globespan’s CIO Advisory Board, a distinctive relationship with some of the nation’s leading technology experts, which he helped to establish. Dave brings deep operating expertise in fast-growth environments, a strategic market view, and an intense commitment to help the firm’s entrepreneurs achieve success. Dave’s operating positions include leadership roles at then start-up Family Entertainment Network’s (FEN) where he was instrumental in FEN’s rapid growth to its industry-leading position, with more than 4 million monthly visitors and a national network of more than 10,000 schools. FEN was acquired by Pearson PLC (NYSE:PSO). Before joining FEN, Dave was at Trans National Group (TNG), where he successfully ran and sold TNG’s start-up Canadian credit card business to Bank of Montreal (NYSE:BMO) and was a member of the founding team that developed businesses in the US, the UK, France and Germany. Dave also contributed to TNG’s venture investments group and was a Principal of JAFCO Ventures, where he focused on enterprise software opportunities. Dave currently serves on the boards of Avokia, Cloakware, Ingrian, Luidia, Q1 Labs, and Reflectent, and also leads Globespan’s investments in Applied Identity, Instill and OpenPages..
Mr. Sardiña has over 20 years of computer technology experience. Prior to Ingrian Networks, Mr. Sardiña was co-founder of Tasmania Network Systems, a cache proxy company that was acquired by Cisco Systems. Mr. Sardiña was also a member of the founding management team for Brocade Communications Systems (NASDAQ: BRCD). Prior to Brocade, Mr. Sardiña was with Sun Microsystems for 11 years. While at Sun, Mr. Sardiña was responsible for Sun's Corporate Development Organization in the office of the Chairman. Mr. Sardiña holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and an M.B.A. from New York University, Stern School of Business.
Pravin joined Menlo Ventures in 2001. He began his career at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory where he designed digital receivers for satellite communications. Later he worked as an engineer for Pacific Communication Sciences, Inc. and as a product manager for ADC Telecommunications in their Wireless Systems Group. Most recently, he evaluated investment opportunities for @Ventures, the venture capital subsidiary of CMGI. Pravin represents Menlo Ventures on the boards of Credant Technologies, Sepaton and WiQuest. He is also involved with the firm's investments in NewScale, Netcontinuum, and Q1 Labs. Pravin is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering) and the Harvard University Graduate School of Business (M.B.A.).
